Join us for an exploration of the Longleaf Pine Ecosystem. This fire-maintained ecosystem dominated by Longleaf Pines, wiregrass, and a diversity of herbaceous species once covered 95 million acres. Due to habitat loss only 3 million acres remains. Ft Stewart is one of the best examples of this ecosystem in coastal Plain of Georgia. Ft. Stewart conservation staff have expertly used prescribed fire to restore and maintain this rare ecosystem. This community is home to rare wildlife such as the indigo snake, gopher tortoise, and the red cockaded woodpecker. During this field trip we will also get to see a prescribed fire in action.

Cost: $ Free (Members Only)

Limit: 20

Register by Mail: RSVP to admin@coastalwildscapes.org. Remit payment to Coastal WildScapes P.O. Box 1106, Darien GA 31305
