Native Plant Garden

In the Fall of 2016, the Spanish Garden at St. Simons Elementary School was converted to a Native Habitat Garden.  This was the result of a joint project between St. Simons Elementary PTA , Coastal WildScapes and GA DNR. The goal of this project was to provide a resource for students at the school to learn more about the native habitats that are found in the area in which they live.  Habitats represented in the garden include Maritime Forest, Beach Dunes, Sandhills, Shell Midden, Longleaf Pine Woodland, Pine Flatwoods, Freshwater Wetlands, and Salt Marsh Edge. Many of the plants were grown from seeds sustainably collected from local populations. Check out the newspaper article here!
